Essential background information to facilitate a clear understanding of the project's objectives and scope.
Collaboration challenges are widespread in modern teamwork, consistently rooted in three compounding problems: context loss, unclear ownership, and tool fragmentation. Workplace studies show that ineffective communication is cited by 86% (see Appendix A for more context) of employees and executives as a key contributor to workflow inefficiencies, and nearly 40% of workers feel their tools don't meaningfully support teamwork.
Even with digital workspaces, it is heavily suggested that more than half of the workday is spent reacting to email, chat, and meetings rather than doing focused work — meaning coordination consumes more effort than execution itself.
These problems are especially acute in high-turnover environments: student project teams cycling every semester, cross-functional squads that reform per initiative, agencies onboarding freelancers mid-project. When members rotate in and out, institutional memory evaporates. New joiners have no reliable way to understand what was decided, who owns what, or why the project is in its current state. The cost isn't just inefficiency — it's repeated ramp-up, re-litigated decisions, and compounding misalignment.
Existing tools fall short:
Synk is a central project hub — a single place where everything happening in a project lives: documents, tasks, decisions, contributor history, and AI-generated insight. Not another editor. Not another chat. The connective layer that makes any team — especially one mid-rotation — immediately oriented.
